Proud new homeshooler

After a disappointing start in the local public school and after much discussion, Bob and I made the decision to homeschool Brandon. I am not new to homeschooling as I did it for a while with Shaun, Jackie and Nickie. I'm a lot less stressed with it this time and I'm not sure if that is because I have some experience with it or because I'm homeschooling just one child this time.

I'm excited about this journey we have embarked. Everyday is new and exciting. I've met up with a local homeschool group that meets weekly for the children to play and for the mom's to have time to discuss homeschooling and whatever else comes to mind. These women are fantastic! They are so very diverse. I'm learning so much from their different styles and points of view. Who da thunk that I could teach and enjoy it? Yeah I know what some of you are thinking, "God, help that child!" or "What makes her think she can do this?" Well, I know that we will both learn as we go along and I have the support of a great group of women and I will also have the support of my chosen curriculum.

Today Brandon has taken the first part of his CAT (California achievement Test) and we will complete it tomorrow. When we receive the results of that testing I fully expect that he will have passed it with flying colors. We will then be taking some testing to determine the most appropriate levels for each subject to continue his homeschool path. He is a bright boy and an excellent reader. He's very hands on and loves building things with leggos and magnetics and such. This is the reason I've decided to use the Math U See curriculum for Brandon. I just have to find exactly where he is now to determine what level to begin using.

At our next meeting with the homeschool group and with their permission I'd like to get some pictures of the mom's and the kids.

Citation

Fish Posted by Picasa

OK I've been slacking I know! I had to post about Bob's first Citation fish! He caught this beauty last week, an 8 pound, 25 incher! Yeah he's so proud! He caught it in Briery Creek Lake! That's the lake I mentioned is just a 2 minute drive from our home. He's been catching them a lot this last week or so and he is having a blast. I suppose I'm gonna have to go and see if I can out do him... LOL!

I have corrected my dial up problem and I'm not being kicked off line as much so I promise to get back to posting regularly. I have some updating to do as well as some blog reads to catch up on!

First snow fall of the new year....

and God willing the last. I sit here watching the beauty of the snow fall from my computer chair and the warmth of the house from the dining room window enjoying the view. I love to watch the snow fall it truly is a beautiful thing. Posted by Picasa
I just don't like the cold and I just can't drive in the stuff and not owning any 4 wheel drive vehicles at the present time well I forsee a couple days of staying home and watching TV and surfing the net.  Posted by Picasa
We will be eating those winter meals like brunswick stew, chili, soups, grilled cheese and hot chocolate. All the things that warm you from the inside out. I love those things, really I do I just know that after about 24 hours of being cooped up in the house with no real means of escape... well I'll be stir crazy. The forcast is calling for somewhere between 6-9 inches of the white stuff and you know what that means! I'll have to catch the youngest before he darts out the door unprepared for the cold with his mind set on throwing snowballs and building snowmen. He's ambitious so I wouldn't be surprised if he builds a snow family complete with pets.
For those of you that don't have the ummmm, "luxury", that was the nicest word I could think to use, enjoy the pictures.

Our new home!

Please forgive me in my lack of posting! IÂ’m so frustrated with my dial up connection! IÂ’ve tried to post about my town and my house for a couple of weeks now. IÂ’ve lost everything IÂ’ve written dozens of times. IÂ’ve been unable to add photos even in my trip to the local library with their DSL I didnÂ’t have much luck uploading photos. My last post was the only luck I had with uploading pictures. So today is my attempt via Microsoft Word IÂ’m hoping to be able to cut and paste not only the post itself but also the photos I wanted to share. So here we go.

This is my new home! Posted by Picasa

We have moved up from a small 854 SF rancher with 3 bedrooms and one bath to this 1840 SF 4 bedroom 3 bath home. Yes you read that right 3 baths. We no longer have to wait for a bathroom. Our home is located just 15 minutes south of the town of Farmville, VA. In the heart of VA, or at least that is what the water tower states!Posted by Picasa

On an 11 acre tract of land. The drive is approximately 2/10 of a mile long. I get a work out just going to the mailbox! Bob and I drove down to Briery creek lake to snap a few pictures. The lake is only a two-minute drive from the house. IÂ’m looking forward to spring and some leisurely fishing in the johnboat. If this proves to be a way for me to post both word and picture without the hassle of uploading on dial up I will soon be posting many more photos. Today we are expecting the delivery of our shed/carport. What a wonderful birthday present for me! Well, it is my birthday today 2/6/06 IÂ’m a whopping 41 years young, it is not however my birthday present it just happens to be arriving on this day. Posted by Picasa
We celebrated my birthday on Saturday when Jackie was here and also BobÂ’s parents and Sisters and brother in-law were all here to celebrate with me. We went to a local restaurant for a fine dinner and came back home for some birthday cake and ice cream. Fortunately Bob spared me the embarrassment of 41 candles and I only had one on my cake.
Brandon and his cousin Mathew sure did love the cake and ice cream!Posted by Picasa

The cake and the company were fantastic! It sure is nice to have family and friends to help one celebrate!
Well I hope this post worked. If not I will have to be content with posts that lack pictures. Well thatÂ’s it for now!
Update: Well as you can see the pictures didn't work. I will try once more at the local library... wish me luck!

update: as you can see I was not able to upload the pictures as I had wanted to I did upload a few but I was not able to put more than one per post. I will see if I can work out the kinks in the future.

Final UPDATE: OK As you can see I was able to upload the pictures finally. I was able to use Hello and Picasa2 and with some extra work I was able to get more than one picture per post. I will have more pictures soon.

Just had to share!

This is a photo of the card Brandon gave to his teacher just before he left his old school and we moved out to the country. I thought it was too cute not to share it. What do you think?

The country life!

OK I'm here in the beautiful County of Prince Edward! We are mostly settled in and I will post some pictures soon. The bad news is I only have a dial up connection and most of you remember how darn slow those things are so this limits what I'm able to do. I'm not complaining, mind you, I'm just saying. LOL! I was so happy and surprised to see Aimee from www.sleepingmommy.com and Jade from www.AZJade.com had stopped by to visit in my absence! Welcome ladies! I hope you will return soon! I will do my best to update regularly I will just have to deal with the speed or I should say lack of speed a dial up connection offers. Those of you that know me know I'm not very patient, for this I will ask you to forgive me now or don't that is up to you!

Oh I have to tell you just how proud a mom I am! Brandon (my second grader) had to take a reading test at his new school on his very first day, as it was testing day for the entire school. I received the results on Friday, he scored 94%. He is reading between a third and fourth grade level! You go Brandon! I'm treating him to a nice lunch on Monday just the 2 of us.

OK, I will get some pictures together to post next time so you can see my lovely town and my new house!

It's Official

We are the proud owners of a beautiful home in the country and owners of rental property! This old house is under a rental agreement with a young couple starting a family and we are moving up and out of here! We just got home from closing and I'm on cloud 9! The weather isn't cooperating so it will be a day or two before we move which means I have a couple days of internet left before I go into true country life mode... well at least till the satellite gets installed. I want to thank all of you that sent your good mojo and prayers our way! I love you all and again thanks soooo much! Oh I'll post pictures of the new house all complete after the move and after I get some sort of Internet connection

How do you taste?

milkshake
You taste like a milkshake. Your frozen malts send
a delicious thrill across the tongue. Your
sweetness and innocence are bared for the world
to suck up with a straw... and you love it,
baby.
